The food is OK, the service on the patio at lunch time is horrible. This scenario has happened to me 3 times and there will not be a 4th. My party of 5 gets a seat right away, drinks are ordered and delivered and then nothing happens for 30 to 45 minutes. We ask about our food and are always told "we are really busy and doing the best we can". they expanded their seating area but apparently not the kitchen! What a great plan that is, since kitchens are pretty expensive to upgrade. So we wait and generally it is an hour and a half experience which is way too long for us working stiffs. There is never an apology other than an excuse about being busy which is not my problem, but the waste of time becomes a problem for me. I think the least they could do is send us a free appetizer or comp the beverages or some other sign that they care at all! Well, they have lost us as customers for good, as if they care!. I also had a group in there last fall, there was 20 of us, and by the time our food came we had to box it up to go see a play at the Mounds Park Theatre. Again no real concern about our time issues. Hopefully they wake up some day as there are not a lot of choices in that area.

Thought I'd give it a try (of recent). When I walked in it seemed cramped but I continued in. I sat down at the bar and instantly got a migraine headache from the very bright fluorescent lighting. It felt like I was sitting at the library or something, so I left immediately. I get a headache just thinking about it.

Fish fry truly lived up to the reviews. Parking was a bit of a challenge but once we got a spot the rest was all good. Its much bigger than I realized and they do a great job handling the crowds. We sat at the bar while we waited about 30 minutes for a table. The fish had generous pieces that were nicely battered and fried to perfection- which is not easy to do with the amount of fish they prepare. We were on an adventure to try a new place and we were not disappointed!!!

From the outside passing by 61 it looks like a small dive bar, but drive into Burns Ave. there is a huge parking lot, and on Friday during lent cars parked all over the street. The owner is on sight and keeping things running as sanely as possible. We sat downstairs in the banquet room. We were amongst the large parties, including, John O. and Brian and Alyssa R. with baby Fiona in tow. As soon as we sat down we tell the waitress we're having the fishfry. Basil and I also got clam chowder, and I gave everyone samples. It was pretty good. We loved the fish, quite a few huge pieces. It passed the hand eating test. There are specials all week, and I'm anxious to try the broasted chicken on Monday. The service was great, and she was very cool amongst all the chaos. I usually don't eat the fries, and Fiona took care of that problem just fine. I'm definitely grabbing the fishfry coattails of this crowd.

We stopped in for dinner around 6:00--luckily we called ahead because the place was packed. We were seated in about 10 minutes by a very kind young man who kept checking in with us. Our party of 6 tried a variety of things: fish fry, hamburger, Cuban, broasted chicken and ribs. The guys also tried a couple of the local brews, which drew rave reviews. The fish was decent. A little on the cool side. I think they held it back waiting for the broasted chicken. My daughter ordered a hamburger medium well, and it came out almost rare. Kind of odd considering we waited twenty minutes for our food. The food "hits" were the Cuban, the chicken and the ribs. Although the host was very friendly, the waitress wasn't as great. She wasn't awful, just absent. And she never apologized for the rare burger or even asked if we wanted another one. She just took the burger away and appeared with a new one several minutes later. By that time everyone else was done eating so we just took it to go. I gave them three stars because I really wanted to like this place in spite of the food miscues. It was a freezing night but the place was cozy and warm, noisy but not obnoxious. We'll try it again and see if we fare any better next time.

Obb's is totally underrated. It's a neighborhood place that welcomes regulars and newcomers alike. The food is pretty standard bar food, but it's tasty and serviceable. I had a taco salad that wasn't anything I'd trade my firstborn for or anything, but as far as a taco salad goes, it totally hit the spot. I haven't had a wide experience with the food, though. However, I have had a stop-in-for-a-drink experience more than once. Here are two things that you will love: 1. 2 Gin (Tanqueray) and Tonics in taaaaall glasses with a strongish pour were less than $8. I thought the waitress had forgotten to charge us for one of them or it was happy hour or something...but nope. That's just how cheap they are. And they were tasty, too. 2. This bar is REALLY clean. Like...maybe the owner has OCD clean. The tables are all polished wood with nary a chip or crack. They show use, but there's none of that grit-in-the-corners that you get at other places. This is a totally comfortable little hangout with a friendly atmosphere that's worth a pop-in on the way to (or on the way back from) somewhere else.

I am travelling for work a lot. Had to work late that day, did not want to grab the regular grub at the hotel or Ruby Red Chili Lobster Garden chain restaurant, therefore I ended up at Obb's. They had nice outside patio, but I sat inside to watch NFL game. Great atmosphere, authentic and clean, somewhere you could comfortably take your wife to. Ordered chips and salsa (both fresh and for under $3 you cannot complain) and Burger. One of the better burgers I had, and I grill a lot at home. Cooked at high temp, so crispy on the outside and no juices all leaking out that make the bun and fries soft. Beer selection was solid, which you cannot always say about smaller local bars, don't get me started on the chain sponsored waterholes with goatpee coming out of the taps!!! Staff very friendly, there was an older local crowd there, all is good. Going back there next week when I am in Minneapolis again!!!

Obb's oozes so much effing Midwestern/neighborhood charm it's hard not to be a fan of this place. This is evidenced by the fact that it's usually quite busy, if not packed, as it usually is during the weekends. Obb's somehow strikes a balance that I have to assume would appeal to most; it's a comfortable and relaxing place to grab a pint and/or a bite, and it is also a fairly popular restaurant among the locals and non-bar crowd. The food could generally be classified as pub grub and comfort food - think Friday fish fry, burgers and anything and everything capable of being thrown in a deep fryer. That said, there are a few diamonds in the rough worth mentioning. The first of which is the Cuban sandwich (which as of this writing is not actually printed on the menu, but I have been assured is and will be officially in the near future). It has the usual suspects involved; pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, but the addition of the swine trifecta of pepper bacon makes this one worth mentioning on my personal favorites of a style of sandwich that I would probably order on my deathbed. And from a price versus quality standpoint, their ribs are pretty good too. At any given time this place will be patronized by locals ranging from their 20's to their 90's, though the scale is generally tilted in the favor of the older demographic. Regardless of age, there's a good chance the bartender knows them by name and vice versa. There are enough TV's to take in the game, enough tap lines to at least mostly appease any beer snob you have in tow and enough free popcorn to shutup your penny-pinching friends. Is Obb's worth a cross-town visit? No, probably not. It is, however, a friendly neighborhood hangout and certainly one of the better options on the East side.

This neighborhood bar may not look like much, but it's certainly grown on me since I moved to the East Side. Now I'd say it's one of my first suggestions for a casual, nearby eat-out. The menu was pretty lean for the vegetarians up until recently; now there's a few choices so I'm not just stuck with a grilled cheese sandwich. Wait staff was nice, drinks were good, not much else to say!

Working nearby, I visited this location every day for lunch along with me and several of my co-workers. Having a limited lunch break of approximately 30 minutes, the service, speed and food were FANTASTIC! I had the opportunity to eat many of the lunch dishes that they serve. Went there on a Sunday morning for their breakfast menu and was pleased once again. The service is fast and their prices are amazing - excellent value. It gets extremely busy on Friday due to their Friday Fish Fry. During lunch, it's offered at an excellent price, but during dinner service, it becomes an all-you-can-eat. Enjoyed all of the servers and staff. Family owned and operated.... feels like home. Great place to be and would definitely return if I ever make it back to the St. Paul area.

Every time I go here this place is packed!!! The food is great! The owner spares no expense making sure your well accommodated. I try to get here as often as possible, but its so busy parking becomes and issue. Good problem to have

This is a wonderful bar/restaurant with amazing food. I order the strawberry chicken salad. The dressing was amazing! My boyfriend had a burger which was good too. But the turkey dinner sandwich was the star of the show. It was HUGE and tasted wonderful. The atmosphere was great. It had the feel of a great local favorite. The bar had some great MN sports memorabilia too. We visited on the hottest day on record (103 with humidity) and the restaurant was nice and cool. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Next time I am in Saint Paul, I will be sure to make a stop there.

FOOD? Amazing! I had their Cuban (the pickle mayo is incredible), but was able to try off of a friends plate. She had the Dixie burger. Everything was incredible! Extremely flavorful, not over cooked. If you like spicy, Dixie burger is definitely a must try. SERVICE ? Friendly & welcoming. Made for an awesome experience.

I've been to Obb's about 7 or 8 times now. This place is fantastic. Newly remodeled. Food is very good, at least what I have had. Recently, 5/28/14, I tried the Cuban sandwich. While not a "real" Cuban, it is the one of the best(if not the best) Cubans I have ever had. Second only to the Grumpy Minnow on Rush Lake. It has the regular Cuban stuff like pulled pork, ham and pickles, but instead of mustard it had a very flavorful sauce and a few slices of jalapeno bacon on it. Simply awesome!!

Obb's was a very pleasant surprise. Very crowded on a Friday night; however we were able to get a table after a short wait. Nice selection of tap beers including Blue Moon, Murphy's Irish Stout. Dinner was a New York strip for hubbs and I had the hot pork and mashed potato sandwich - both were very good and I wouldn't hesitate to order either again. We had the friend ravioli for an appetizer which was only ok - no need to order again. Over all a great, casual place to enjoy watching a Gopher hockey game

Stopped in for the first time tonight before a hockey game and the place was PACKED but the service was hands down the best I've had in a VERY long time. They asked what time we had to be out of there and took our order as the table we were waiting for cleared so our food came out immediately and it was great food. REAL turkey on the Rachel, the Cuban, Roast beef and Dago got 2 thumbs up. The nachos were HUGE and the sampler platter, although all fried wasn't greasy. The beer selection was solid and the drinks had a healthy pour! Our waitress was AWESOME! Even though it's not close to where I live, I'll make the trip again.

Obb's isn't a place you'd ever find, unless you live nearby. It's just East of Highway 61 on Burns Avenue, near Mounds Park in St. Paul. It used to be called Obb's prior to the '80s and was the Kickoff for most of my life, when it was owned by an ex-Viking. It was bought back by the original owners a few years ago and they changed the name back to Obb's. The most notable thing about Obb's is the back patio. They have several tables back there and its a nice place to enjoy a beer or lemonade on a summer afternoon. During the daytime, many people bring their kids in for lunch. For a bar, its pretty kid friendly. There are some video games in the back room and free popcorn. The food is standard pub fare. They have a fish fry on Fridays and make a decent burger and fries. It's average prices for a neighborhood pub. This is one of the better bars on the East Side. The place is pretty laid back, its not usually too busy, but there are always a few regulars at the bar stools.

Came here last Friday for their Friday Fish Fry with my girlfriend's parents. This place is a staple in my GF's parents rotation and I really enjoy it here. It's a sport bars on one half and a restaurant area on the other. I think there is seating in an area in the basement as well. There are TVs all over the place to catch a special game. The placed was PACKED on friday. This Friday Fish Fry is a big deal I guess. The wait was almost 1.5 hours, but thanks to a call-ahead we were seated immediately, which was awesome. The food is really good here. I've had everything from salads, sandwiches, steaks, and now the fish. The fish was perfect. I think it's pollock, but it was typical fish and chips style, but the breading was perfect. light and crunchy, not heavy and soggy. It's definitely worth trying at least once. Come early if you want to come here on Friday's. We asked and the waitress said they go through over 500lbs of fish on a typical Friday. They keep bringing it out until you say STOP!!!

Fast Food! We recently stopped in for a quick lunch before a game since it was on the way. The bar had a decent amount of people in it, the patio was packed, but the restaurant was sparsely populated. By sparsely I mean just us. After we sat down, I realized why - IT WAS HOT!!!! Even the waitress asked us if we thought it was hot. I hate being hot, so this wasn't the best place for me, but we lived. I had a Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich with cottage cheese. It was decent. Dining companion had Reuben and chips. He said it was pretty good. The chips were store bought, generic that didn't appeal to me. Bill was around $20 for lunch, so a decent price. Service and food were both quick. I think had we been there to watch a game, were regulars, or for Happy Hour, we would have had a different experience. I would go back and try out some of the other items, especially the fish fry. Go there if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

I used to frequent this bar and grill with my parents growing up. They had okay food, but was a little run down and dirty. I haven't been there in over 5 years, but on a whim we decided to go there for dinner tonight. We were pleasantly surprised! It was clean, with a really nice bar and patio .My boyfriend and I both ordered the broasted chicken that came with soup/slaw/salad/cottage cheese and a potato. It was on special, and very good. The menu is very inviting with a wide variety of dinners, sandwiches, and salads. I was very excited to see that they have breakfast on the weekend! The service was very quick and friendly. We will definitely be back! Check it out :)

This bar is a top notch bar with a friendly environment and a great place to get food especially on fish fry Fridays because their fish fry is absolutely amazing. I love their Cuban sandwich and grill cheese. Best bar by far in the st. Paul area. Must go if your in the area.

Friday Fish Fry and Bloodys.... This place is just a neighborhood bar. Its great. Their Friday Fish Fry is amazing. The fish is great. Big thick pieces of some damn thing or another. Comes with choice of fried or baked pots, cole slaw, and lots of lemons and tartar sauce. Their bloodys rule becuase they come with deer jerky in them and a pickle AND green olives. Im not really sure how it can get much better, really. How very Minnesota!

My son lives a few blocks away from Obbs and when ever we visit Obbs is a definite stop. A neighborhood bar atmosphere that does everything well. The food is great and the service has always been good.

Big fan of Obbs for lunch or dinner. Their fried fish is great compared to many of the restaurants that bill themselves as offering the best fried fish. For lunch they have a shaved beef & melted cheese sandwich that comes with au jus and fries for around $6. They also have bottled root beer which is great. Most of the menu is above average bar fare, but the waitresses/servers are always friendly and you'll leave full & happy, which you can't say about a lot of places nowadays. I like Obbs because they are friendly and serve good food at a reasonable price without trying to promote themselves as the next best thing since sliced bread.
